The Grey Sky Ramblers

The Grey Sky Ramblers is an Olympia-based acoustic stringband featuring original & traditional bluegrass/folk tunes, vocal harmonies, and Appalachian-inspired clogging. Since its 2013 inception, this hardly-strictly bluegrass ensemble has morphed like the ebb & flow of the riparian region it inhabits. Cradled in Cascadia, nurtured with temperate Pacific Northwest love, and gathering green gobs of moss all the while – The Ramblers are high & lonesome, hard-drivin’ pickers who like their grass true & blue!

The Grey Sky Ramblers sound like is rooted in classic bluegrass traditions, with influences that span some of the most iconic figures in the genre’s history. From the high lonesome harmonies of Bill Monroe and The Stanley Brothers to the tight, intricate picking of Flatt & Scruggs, their music likely carries the essence of both early bluegrass and its evolution through the decades.

With band members like Jordan Bell on fiddle and vocals, alongside seasoned instrumentalists like Bill Camp on dobro and Rick Schultz on banjo, it seems like they’ve got a solid lineup to recreate those deep, rich sounds. And with a lineup that includes both guitarists (John Williamson and Jordan Bell), it’s possible The Grey Sky Ramblers bring a blend of melodic guitar runs and vocal harmonies reminiscent of bands like Jim & Jesse or The Osborne Brothers.

Given their influence list, I imagine they focus on both instrumental prowess and harmony-rich vocals, which would make for a lively and authentic bluegrass experience. Do they play more traditional material, or do they throw in some original tunes alongside those classic standards?
