Indianapolis German Band 1
For over 40 Years, this Indianapolis German Band has been a household name. What started as a casual get-together of three musicians in late 1962, grew to a four-piece band by 1963 and eventually evolved into a group of five musicians by 1985.
Throughout the years, the group has never had a leader, even though at times it seems as there might be as many as five. Everyone shares in the responsibilities and privileges, a unique set-up that has proven very successful.
One might ask about the secret of such an endurance? Quite simple-they all love music! But what's more, they like to have fun and Gemuetlichkeit with their followers!
Specializing in authentic German music, the group has provided polkas, marches and bouncy waltzes for many parties, weddings, picnics and German Fests throughout the Midwest. Butchertown, Oktoberfest, Strassenfest, Belle of Louisville Cruises and dances at the local German-American Club, just to mention a few. Also out of town engagements such as Ft. Wayne, Terra Haute, Evansville, Jasper and Indianapolis in Indiana-Atlanta GA, Greenville NC and Rosville TN are not uncommon. They have also entertained patrons of several casinos such as in Manistee MI, Tupelo MS and Ceasars in Indiana!
Holding up German tradition, the band wears Lederhosen, short leather pants held up by bright suspenders. These costumes along with their up-beat tempo contribute to getting the crowd involves, both old and young!
Over the years the band has released albums and tapes of their music, with their biggest hit in 1982, the Duck Dance, a happy tune to dance to.
Their latest CD, titled German-American Classics will take you on a musical journey of happy tunes. It contains a mixture of polkas, waltzes and marches as well as rhumbas, rheinlaender, slow waltzes and a little bit of country. Their version of the Duck Dance (Chicken Dance) has been a crowd favorite for many years.
Why not have this band be the spotlight of your next event?
