Dorothy Leigh
After suffering a pharmaceutical error which led Dorothy Leigh to severe medical complications and fighting for her life, Dorothy Leigh a strong, determined, soulful songstress had a chance to listen to that voice within directing her to pursue her dreams in life.
Its not often in life when we are given a second chance not only to live but to realize our purpose. Through unfortunate circumstances this is what occurred in vocalist Dorothy Leigh’s life. “I was the victim of a pharmaceutical error where I almost died. I ended up in ICU with a series of serious complications, but I overcame them one by one in a fairly short period of time, based on the severity of each issue. For some time after, I wondered why I survived and what God intended for me to do. One day, I realized that I had survived so I could share my talent as a singer. I got a second chance to fulfill my dream of being an accomplished singer. Each day we are given the same opportunity to realize and accomplish our dreams. We simply have to recognize it and pursue it.”
Dorothy Leigh upbringing
Growing up in a musical family, Dorothy Leigh was exposed to many avenues of musicality. Her older sister sang with many musical artists and inspired her to lean toward performance. Outside of enjoying singing, Dorothy took piano and violin lessons. “I grew up in a large family. We used to sing duets and background behind each other. I loved Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick and Barbra Streisand. My dream was to be an accomplished singer.”
Although Dorothy’s life took a different direction after college, she found herself working in the corporate world and singing when she could. Dorothy Leigh debut project, entitled “A Second Chance,” captures the essence of her amazing talent reflecting emotional and spiritual depth on her life-altering journey. Working with producer Alva Nelson who composed a few of the songs, as well as arranged and contracted the musicians and background singers for the project gave her the backdrop for success.
