Lue Perrine

With her bluesy style and bright but cool singing, Lue Perrine will be certain to take you on a journey to the jazz world of the 1930’s through the 1960’s. She performs on vocals and jazz guitar moving through songs such as; Thelonious Monk’s “Round Midnight”, “My Romance” by Erroll Louis Garner and bossa tunes by Antônio Carlos Jobim. Her performance remains faithful to the traditional mode and feel of the songs which brings a romantic peaceful ambiance to the listener.

Lue Perrine career

Lue Perrine is a San Jose State University Music graduate from the school of Jazz. She has studied privately with jazz greats such as Matthew Brubeck, Nate Pruitt and professional broadway musical performer, Baomi Butts Bhenji. She began her professional music career in the 1990’s shortly after graduating from college. She has performed in a broad variety of musical venues throughout the greater San Francisco bay area at various resorts, restaurants, national parks, coffee houses, fairs, weddings, wineries, churches and private events. In 1987, Lue Perrine married a professional musician and recording artist who now accompanies her on bass in a duet setting. She is also available to perform in a trio or quartet setting when requested.

Lue Perrine got her musical education when she was growing up in California from the singing lessons she began at age seven by becoming the youngest member of her school’s honor chorus. Her enthusiasm to learn music at such an early age was rewarded by the school’s principal awarding her with complimentary private music lessons with the instrument of her choice. She chose to study the violin. In her high-school orchestra and throughout her college years she continued to play the violin where she became an honored member of the university’s symphonic orchestra.

During her musical studies throughout the years, Lue Perrine also favored playing the guitar which eventually led her to compose her own musical compositions. After studying classical voice for two years in college she changed her concentration to jazz vocals where she learned to perform an extensive collection of jazz standards. "I think I loved every song in my jazz fake book” she said, "and I tried to learn them all."

When Lue Perrine met her musician husband, the two of them began performing her original songs together and eventually took an interest in performing the songs of the singer songwriter era of the 1970’s. They eventually evolved to the jazz repertoire of songs they perform today. The San Francisco bay area is her home base where this San Jose Jazz Singer has worked with some of the finest musicians in town. Presently the two are mainstays for Dolce Hotels and Resorts at Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California where they perform as their house musicians.

Lue Perrine influences

She cites the smooth jazz styles of Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan leaving you with a sense of peace and tranquility which is heard from her soft chording style on jazz guitar and her smooth romantic expression of vocal phasing on vocals. Jazz vocal icons, Diana Krall and Brazilian-born singer Astrud Gilberto, have been major influences on Lue Perrine singing abilities.
