Boston Latin Band 1
The leader of this Boston Latin Band has been New England’s Latin music mainstay for over 25 years. Making his way onto the music scene as an emerging artist in the mid seventies, he started performing as a percussionist with his family band. Born into a lineage of Puerto Rican musicians, he, his brothers and his sister joined their father in sharing the infectious Latin rhythms and irresistible beats with an unsuspecting New England public. Establishing Latin music as a cultural tradition in the area, they were embraced wholeheartedly by communities across New England.
Boston Latin Band beginnings
In 1993, he founded this Boston Latin Band performing mainly as the lead singer and percussionist. He was also acting musical director, promoter, and booking agent for the band. Those were exciting and challenging times for him, his hard work and perseverance brought him closer to his professional goals as a musician.
In 1996, he realized one of those goals when he produced and directed his first CD. In 2003, he celebrated another pivotal moment in his career with the release of his second album. Continuing with hard work and persistence, a cutting-edge album was released in 2012.
Boston Latin Band collaboration
A believer in the power of collaboration, the leader of this Boston Latin Band has worked with Gonzalo for musical arrangements, Rodolfo and Arsenio for song lyrics, and performed with many Latin icons including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Tito Nieves, Giovanni Hidalgo, Eddie Palmieri, Lalo Rodriguez, Mongo Santa Maria, Larry Harlow, and Tito Puente JR (to name just a few). With lyrics coming straight from his soul and a sizzling oeuvre of Salsa “Romantica” and Afro-Caribbean rhythms, he continues to move the hearts and bodies of Salsa lovers—soliciting audience participation with each performance.
This Boston Latin Band has performed throughout the East Coast and as far north as Canada, at concerts festivals, night clubs and on television specials. The show boasts not only the dynamism of its musicians, but also the skilled moves and harmonious voices of a host of salsa dancers onstage. This three-part show—music, dance, and community participation—separates his orchestra from many others in the Latin music performance scene.
He is a passionate performer and is committed to spreading the pleasure of Latin music and dance to all people. In an effort to fully share this joy in celebrating Latin music, he not only performs, but also teaches Salsa and the Cha Cha.
