Toronto Mariachi

In 1987, the leader of this Toronto Mariachi group was invited to take part in the recording of Las Canciones de Mi Padre with Linda Ronstadt, collaborating alongside the legendary Mariachi Vargas—the most iconic Mariachi ensemble in history. Inspired by the experience and recognizing a lack of authentic Mariachi representation in Canada, he envisioned creating a group of his own. By 1998, he began training local musicians in traditional Mexican folk music, laying the foundation for what would become this Mariachi group. Since then, the ensemble has grown into a professional, dynamic force committed to sharing the rich musical heritage of Mexico with audiences across Canada and beyond.

During the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement, this Toronto Mariachi played for the President of Mexico on behalf of Canada. This performance prompted an invitation to the annual Mariachi conference in Mexico, The Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi. Since that time, this group has represented Canada at this annual event.

Toronto Mariachi venues

This group has performed at such venues as the Royal Ontario Museum, the Canadian National and Harbourfront. They have also performed at the WOMAD Festival, the International Hispanic Festival, the annual Mexican Independence Celebration at Nathan Phillips Square and Kempenfest. This Toronto Mariachi group was named Toronto's Best Mariachi by Toronto Life Magazine in 1999.
