This San Francisco Harpist is currently performing worldwide and recording both as a solo artist and collaborator. Her playing and compositions have "unusual power and beauty." Her latest album reflects recent travels in Asia and PhD research into the unusual harps of Ethiopia and Persia - the original harps. Combining both virtuosic technique from classical training and soulfulness from immersion in folk traditions, this artist explores the borders of the harp's voice.
San Francisco Harpist studies
This San Francisco Harpist was born in Ireland, she lived, performed and studied on the East Coast, in Europe and the Middle East before choosing Berkeley, California, where she received her Master of Music (MM) degree. Each country left a strong impression on her music, which interweaves Celtic, Eastern European, Near Eastern and classical arts and mythology.

Besides performing everywhere from the Australian Harp Festival to Washington DC's Smithsonian to Eastern European cathedrals, this San Francisco Harpist teaches to advanced level and can be heard on many CDs and soundtracks for film and TV, including her three solo albums. She splits her time between the San Francisco Bay Area and Eastern Europe, pursuing a PhD in harp composition at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria. This San Francisco Harpist believes strongly in the healing power of music and plays often in hospitals and healing centers.

I have been working with business and professional coaches for almost 20 years. Each one has brought various strengths, but only Diana Rowan had the whole package. I needed business coach who was also a musician and a harpist. I needed a harp coach who understood the mechanics of having a thriving harp-based business.

Diana’s knowledge of technique is unique among harp teachers. She was able to immediately identify posture problems that I had struggled with for years. She was able to correct some of my technical problems, and get me playing more fluidly and with more ease.
I also enjoy our composition conversations where I can ask questions about phrasing, spelling, jazz chords and world music, and always get an engaging and interesting answer.
Having Diana on my side has given me the support I have needed to try new things, and it’s giving me the freedom to grow as a musician much more quickly than if I were working alone.
